Jack and I are having a wonderful time in Munich. Since we are spending five days here, it has not been rush and very enjoyable. We have had some great tour guides! Very knowledgable and you can actually understand them! Here are a few pictures of Munich.
Above is a typical street scene a block or two from our hotel.
Another block away is the Farmer's Market where you can get just about anything. It is open every day but Sunday. Great place to eat. I have never seen such beautiful vegetables, fruits and incredible cheeses. Of course, the pretzels are not too bad either. Found out that the pretzel has its strange shape because it represents you crossing your arms across your chest when you pray. The three whole in the pretzel represents the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Don't know if it is true or just a folk tale but I like the story.
This is a picture of the SS Headquarters. There is a large complex of buildings, Hitler's Headquarters, parade grounds and museums in the area.
This is a small portion of the Schloss Nymphenburg Hunting Lodge. My pictures don't do it justice. It is huge with many gardens and canals. Probably as large as Versailles.
The owner had hoped to build a system of canals to get from Munich to his palaces from Munich. But, he ran out of money.
This is the gate to Dachau Concentration Camp. This tour was very moving. Dachau was a labor camp and housed thousands of prisoners but only about 20% of the population was Jewish.
This is the Administration Building.
Towards the end of the war, they did build extermination buildings with gas chambers.
Cremantorium.
This is the gang at the Tomb of the Unknown
There were about 10-15 barricks where the prisoners were housed.
We are having a wonderful time. So far, everyone is getting along get and Jack is happy that there have been no fist fights--Ha! Ha!
Tomorrow are museums. They have some wonderful collections here and I am looking forward to seeing as much as we can.
